What is a Microschool?

Coastal Roots Academy offers the flexibility families value in homeschooling, paired with the structure, expertise, and resources many at-home options simply can’t provide. Led by a certified, veteran teacher, students benefit from professional instruction grounded in proven educational practice—not trial and error.
Our program blends Montessori-inspired, hands-on learning with thoughtfully integrated technology. Students have access to 1:1 devices, high-quality materials, and a carefully prepared learning environment that supports independence, curiosity, and deep understanding. Learning extends beyond the classroom through intentional indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing students to move, explore, and engage in meaningful, real-world experiences.

Students complete a short portion of their day using Prenda’s online lessons, and the rest of the time is spent in hands-on projects, small-group activities, movement, and creative learning. It’s a balanced approach that keeps kids engaged without excessive screen time.

Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Claye, the founder and educator of Coastal Roots Academy. I’m a certified teacher with 12 years of teaching experience in Pre-K through 6th grade.
As both a mom and educator, I value connection, curiosity, and meaningful learning moments. I created Coastal Roots Academy to provide families with a small, high-quality microschool option that blends strong academics with creativity, social-emotional growth, and individualized instruction. I hope to create a learning environment for children that is joyful, hands-on, and deeply connected. A place where kids can feel safe, inspired, and excited to learn every day.
